If you are a mobile user, chances are you:

-Devour content

-Look at ads

-Play music

-Friend and post updates to Facebook

-Shop

OK, you may argue that you can do that on your PC or your customers can just go to your website.

However, with high-powered devices readily available to just about anyone, mobile is quickly becoming poised to take over the greatest share of web usage. A few years ago, with lower quality, more expensive devices, this may not have been the case.

What Does a Mobile App Provide That a Website doesn’t?

-Mobile apps are fast, devices are loaded with features to make it easy to access information and they don’t need Wi-Fi connections.

-Mobile devices have built-in functionality that enable users to take pics, send messages, use GPS, add to contacts, and more! Just look at the new companies springing up like InstaGram, with 25+ millions users (according to Business Insider). It combines mobile, the ability to share and social media for a new experience. Or “DrawSomething”, launched in February, combing mobile, social and gaming;  it  generates over $100,0000 of revenue on a daily basis.

-Mobile apps are readily available on your screen for immediacy. (Unlike bookmarking a website or content on your PC.)

-Mobile ads are growing and users are paying attention to them.

-Mobile users are on the move and expect immediate results. If you website is unwieldy on a desktop, it will be even chunkier on a mobile device.

It’s no longer a question of whether or not mobile will completely supersede desktop internet usage, it’s a question of when.

You’ll still need your website and it may need an overhaul or mobile optimization to make the cut. However we are on the cusp of a new mobile era and the time to join is now.

The research firm of comScore, recently published a new study that says 64.2 million U.S. citizens use their mobile devices for social networking (which includes reading blogs.)  Get this, more than half of them are doing so daily, well, almost daily.

They found me!  I’m a member of this large social networking group, using my iPhone and iPad to access Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Based on the report, 38.2 million are pulling up social networks on their phones or tablets nearly every day. What are the most popular activities? According to the study, 84.6% of mobile social networkers are reading posts from their friends or “people they know personally.” 73.6% are posting to their own status.

What’s most interesting is that we’re (since I’m one of them) using our social networks to interact with brands and organizations. According to the study, approximately 58% of U.S. users read posts from companies or brands, and it appears that about 32% click on ads.

The number of people using social networks through their phones or tablets is skyrocketing. Social Media provides another way to reach your customers in a more personal manner and grow your customer base significantly, when done correctly.
